Falcon Theatre is proud to present The Mystery of Irma Vep, written by Obie Award-winner Charles Ludlam, directed by Jenny Sullivan, and starring Matthew Floyd Miller and Jamie Torcellini, the second production of the Falcon Theatre’s 2013-2014 Subscription Season.

A classic COMEDY named one of the best plays of 1984 by The New York Times, this ridiculous romp begins on a dark and stormy night when Lady Enid and Lord Edgar arrive at their haunted estate and a silly mystery unfolds. Complete with vampires, werewolves, mummies and damsels in distress, the laughs erupt in this side-splitting spoof of horror movies, classic literature, Victorian melodrama, Hitchcock and the conventions of theatre itself.

“Mystery of Irma Vep - A Penny Dreadful, The” is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.

“The absurdly delightful “The Mystery of Irma Vep” benefits from its elastic two stars willing to do anything for a laugh, of which there are many.”
-Jonas Schwartz, Theatermania

“The presence of Ludlam’s 1984 Off-Broadway “penny dreadful” Irma Vep here is made all the more welcoming at the hands of Sullivan, especially featuring the participation of her two fearless vaudevillian-inspired performers: Matthew Floyd Miller and Jamie Torcellini… There is nothing but ridiculous fun waiting for lucky patrons of Irma Vep, which offers a humor that needs a sprightly audience willing to go along with the grand spoof. ”
-ArtsinLA.com

"In all its campy style and ludicrousness, Irma Vep aims to thrill, even overkill, tickling one's fancy with its heavy emphasis on vampires, ghosts and werewolves. This perfect for Halloween treat, directed in brilliant, resourceful style by Jenny Sullivan will play on at the Falcon through November 17...Miller and Torcellini are nothing short of amazing in their portrayal of all the characters. How they make the costume changes so quickly is an astounding feat, not to mention the different accents they utilize and the overall tremendous physicality that the execution of the play demands from them..."

"Mixing Hitchcock’s Rebecca with Universal horror classics from the ’30s and ’40s, it’s fast and funny, naughty without being prurient… The Falcon Theatre production, under the direction of Jenny Sullivan, perfectly captures Ludlam’s anarchic spirit… Miller and Torcellini are clearly having a blast with their roles, and they pass their enthusiasm along to the audience… it’s so perfectly performed you can barely catch your breath from laughing so hard. And their transitions from character to character are rapid-fire and seamless."

"Pure Comic Genius…yet another amazingly entertaining and wildly fun production…director Jenny Sullivan really did the amazing job of making this story surrealistic and fun…Jamie Torcellini is a funny, charming and energetic performer…Equally as funny, sharp and quick with the wit and humor that are all three of his characters, is Mathew Floyd Miller.”
