The Falcon Theatre is thrilled to present, in association with Rita Wilson, the international hit comedy Jamaica, Farewell, written and performed by NAACP award-winner Debra Ehrhardt and directed by Joel Zwick (My Big Fat Greek Wedding), the fifth and final production in its 2010-2011 Subscription Season. After successful runs in London, the Edinburgh Fringe and New York, Debra brings her thrilling tale to Burbank!
Debra Ehrhardt’s solo show Jamaica, Farewell, based on a mostly true story about her journey to the USA from Jamaica in the turbulent 1970s of the Manley Era, is a hilarious and touching story of how one woman risked everything in order to fulfill her lifelong dream of starting over in America. Debra’s tour de force performance is a wild roller coaster ride of suspense, intrigue, seduction, humor and manipulation brought to you from the producer of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Rita Wilson.
Jamaica, Farewell plays five weeks, Wednesday-Saturday at 8pm, with Sunday matinees at 4pm.

“Jamaican-born Debra Ehrhardt always dreamed of coming to the United States, and in 85 animated minutes she relates how a combination of luck and pluck enabled her to do just that...A harrowing adventure filled with brothels, a near-rape, smuggling and the CIA… Ehrhardt assumes multiple roles, ably shifting between characters, notwithstanding her sometimes rapid-fire delivery, under Joel Zwick's direction.”

“The audience is with her every step of the way, cheering Debra on, as she sings, dances and laughs her way into our hearts. Although the show is infused with humor throughout, her deep words and angst for a better life and escape from violence and hardship are passionately expressed…Ehrhardt’s stage presence is mesmerizing; she is a vision so lovely, like her homeland — pure beauty and allure. Her performance and compelling journey is powerful and riveting, captivating the audience from beginning to end.”

“Playwright/actress Debra Ehrhardt mesmerizes in her staged one-woman, autobiographical recounting of her ordeal leaving her birthplace in Jamaica, Farewell. Her storytelling captivates and keeps you in suspense, eager to follow her from one harrowing obstacle or pleasurable experience to the next… Ms. Ehrhardt charmingly chameleons into the over-ten different characters… [she] must be a fan of Carol Burnett as she hilariously uses Ms. Burnett’s trademark Mrs. Wiggins’ booty walk to maximum effect to depict a friendly madam she encounters.”

“A spellbinding, edge-of-your-seat adventure…gripping intensity…Ehrhardt’s miraculous struggle and her overflowing patriotism will put to shame native-born citizens of our country who take for granted the gift they have in being able to claim the title 'American.'"
