What are the critics saying about
AN ACT OF LOVE?

Los Angeles Times – April 9, 2008
In a certain brand of commercial play, watching the formula stretch around itself is half the fun. That's the case with "An Act of Love" at the Falcon Theatre. David Landsberg's comedy about a newly divorced man and the women in his life is both familiar and original, and there lies its appeal. Meet Peter Sandusky (Timothy Hornor), an affably sarcastic insurance agent introduced mid-conversation with ne'er-do-well kid sister Julia (Hedy Burress). "I was never addicted to whipped cream," she says. "It was just a fling between cocaine and gambling." (READ FULL REVIEW)

Daily News – April 11, 2008
Crazy mother; tightly wound, neurotic son; screw-up of a younger sister; blind date from Planet Oddball. Can we get a collective "oy vey"? Peopled with the type of stock comic characters from whom you should flee screaming, "An Act of Love" is a recipe for a fluff-ball nightmare. Surprise! David Landsberg's family comedy, in its world premiere at the Falcon Theatre, is a pleasant little bauble containing a couple of quite witty performances and more smarts than a vehicle of this caliber rightly deserves. How well-crafted is Landsberg's play and Casey Stangl's production? (READ FULL REVIEW)

Burbank Leader – April 16, 2008
The Falcon Theatre continues its all-comedy season with the world premiere of David Landsberg’s “An Act of Love.” It’s a uniquely modern comedy surprising for its depth and unpredictability. Landsberg takes a formulaic setup and turns it into something believable and resonant. (READ FULL REVIEW)

CurtainUp.com – April 7, 2008
David Landsberg makes An Act of Love a double entendre in this laugh-out-loud comedy streaked with the distresses of three lifetimes. It's another World Premiere at Garry K. Marshall’s Falcon Theatre. "Do you really want to be a great actress or do you just want to be on TV?" snarls Peter Sandusky to his sardonic glamorous Mother (Susan Sullivan), who gets cast in the role of her life when Peter offers her $1,000 to play the loving mother for a day to himself and his sister Julia (Hedy Burress). Variety – April 8, 2008
TV scripter David Landsberg has transported his extensive sitcom experience ("The Cosby Show," "John Larroquette Show") to the stage with mixed results. Chronicling the tribulations of a female-challenged insurance salesman, "An Act of Love" jumps from one comedic setup to another without much logic, character development or a thematic throughline. Fortunately, helmer Casey Stangl and a facile, stage-worthy ensemble provide the proceedings with a captivating veracity. (READ FULL REVIEW)

AN ACT OF LOVE featured in the entertainment news!

Los Angeles Times – April 8, 2008
PRETENDING TO BE NORMAL IS 'ACT OF LOVE' by Mindy Farrabee - IN 2003, writer-actor David Landsberg got hit with a massive heart attack, one that brought him within 20 minutes of meeting the late David Landsberg. And he's making the most of it. "Now I can do anything I want, because I'm dying," he jokes. "This is my time to be an artist." Thus, after a long television career -- as head scribe and top producer of shows such as "Blossom," "Herman's Head," and "Cosby," Landsberg took a chunk of his newfound borrowed time to concoct the comedy "Act of Love," world-premiering at Burbank's Falcon Theatre. ACT OF LOVE CREATES SWEET REWARDS By Chelsea Sutton - As evidenced by the effects of the recent Writers’ Guild strike, television and motion picture production in Los Angeles pays the bills for many residents. However, for a smaller but hardy number of those, it is theatre that feeds the soul. Here in Burbank, that is what’s happening at the Falcon Theatre as it rounds out its current season with a world premiere comedy, “An Act of Love,” by veteran television writer David Landsberg.
